Floor Sander Hire - Five Things You Need to Know

The floor sander is a home improvement dream, turning an otherwise onerous and backbreaking job into something quick, straightforward and - if you approach it with the right attitude - a whole lot of fun. There is nothing quite so satisfying when preparing a floor to stand back at the end of the job and observe a perfectly smooth and sanded finish, and that's the kind of effect that is hard to achieve with anything other than an automated floor sander machine. If you are hiring one for the day, here are five things you need to know to get the most out of the experience.

Sander Tools

1. What's a floor sander?
For those who don't know, a floor sander is a motorized device for sanding wooden surfaces to a smooth finish and typically used on interior wooden floors such as parquet and block tiles.

Sander Tools

2. When to use one
Floor sanders are typically used for commercial flooring applications, e.g. to prepare a wooden floor for varnishing or other finishing. It can be used both on a brand new wooden floor, to give extra sheen to the finish and reduce grain, or to revitalize an old floor that has roughened or accumulated stains over the years.

3. Clear the room
Sanding the floor is best done when the room is entirely empty. This includes books, drapes and anything else that can accumulate sawdust. Clear all furniture, or allow for extra time if you need to sand under and around furniture that for whatever reason it would be too much work to remove (i.e. a grand piano). Also, cover anything remaining in the room with dust sheets.

4. Apply even pressure
While the floor sander is easy to operate, you have to bear in mind that for the best finish, even pressure has to applied and each inch of wood has to be sanded equally. Let the machine do the work rather than forcing it, and try to work either in straight lines or in even sweeping motions.

5. Save labor time with a vacuum
Many modern floor sanders come with attached vacuum bags which suck up all the sawdust as it is created. This is the ideal solution if you are short of time and fussy about sawdust. If not using a vacuum attachment, sweep regularly between each sanding to ensure that on subsequent passes you are not grinding loose sawdust into the floor.

Power Tools That Should Be in Every Man's Tool Chest

Contrary to the popular belief, most of the woodworking projects do not involve the use of a garage full of power tools. To get started, one only needs seven basic wood working power tools which can be used for most of the tasks involved in woodworking and are essential. Being essential for any woodworking project does not make these power tools expensive as most of these tools are fairly priced in the stores. Given below is a list of seven power tools which are a must for any woodworking project:

Sander Tools

1) Circular saw: It is one of the most important power tools when it comes to woodworking and should be considered by every woodworking enthusiast. It is one the basic and most versatile power tools which is a must have in the tool kit of any experienced user. The circular saw has great versatility and can substitute many other power tools. However, a beginner should be extra cautious while using this tool for the first time as it takes some time for every beginner to feel comfortable with its use. Once you get used it, this power tools can handle most of your cutting jobs in minutes.

Sander Tools

2) Power Drills: This power tool gives the user the ease of handling a good number of drilling tasks. Cordless power drills are more popular when compared with the corded variety, however the corded ones are more versatile as the speed can be adjusted in them.

3) Jigsaw: The third tool in the order of importance is a jigsaw. A jigsaw gives the user the ease of cutting curved and circular patterns in large numbers. It is recommended to select an orbital-action corded model as it is very comfortable to handle and the blades in this model can be changed easily.

4) Random Orbital Sander: This power tool is the next in the list as it sands in random motion and is affordable and can use plain sandpaper as well. The random motion of the orbital sander minimizes any possibility of sanding marks on the stock. While selecting a random orbital sander, one should check with ones local woodworking store, if they have the sanding disks available for the selected model.

5) Table Saw: Any experienced user would confirm that a table saw is one of the most important power tools in a tools box. While selecting a table saw, it is better to go for the one with the best quality which fits in your budget, as this is one tools which can be used for a very long time.

6) Compound Miter Saw: The next essential purchase is of a compound miter saw which is relatively low in cost however is equally useful.

7) Router: The last but not the least in the list is a router which is useful in a variety of tasks.

Multi-Purpose Woodworking System for Home-Improvement Can Save Thousands

The Shopsmith Mark V is an incredible machine; it has the five most needed woodworking tools in one compact system. A Table Saw, a Lathe, a Drill Press, a Disc Sander and a Horizontal Drilling Machine. If you are planning costly home-improvements and would like to save money by doing it yourself I would highly recommend this unique and versatile tool.

Sander Tools

I have used it to make many home-improvements over the years including custom kitchen cabinets and decorative molding. I have also used it to build a 200 square foot deck with beautiful spindles and railing that I turned on the Lathe. I bought my Shopsmith in 1995 and it has never let me down, I have made furniture and even a complete dining room set and not to mention many other pieces of furniture for my bedroom including a low-boy dresser and sofa table. Take a look at a couple of my projects below.

Sander Tools

Another thing that I love about my Shopsmith is that it only takes up about as much space as a bicycle in my garage. If I wanted to do the same operations on my Shopsmith with other stand-alone tools I would need my entire two car garage to accommodate them. The tool is made in the United States and is of top quality, mine is already 12 years old and still is solid as a rock, I've only had it apart once to clean some sawdust and oil it. I have dealt with their customer service several times when buying accessories for my machine (which there are thousands available) and they are very pleasant and helpful, they will even call you after you purchase one of them and walk you through how to un-pack and assemble it which only takes about 10 minutes.

Once again I would highly suggest that you at least take a look at this machine if you are interested in saving money on home-improvements.

You can see the Shopsmith Tool in action here at their website by requesting a DVD

Hide That Unattractive Acne When You Use Face Tanning Lotion

Virtually any teenager will lament that the scariest thing that can happen to them is acne. It is nearly life ending when one evolves a juicy zit right before yearbook pictures or the morning of a big date, but it is even more difficult when one suffers from pimples and blackheads which cover their face. Everyone knows that picking at one's face is not going to fix the issue. Actually, it will only make it worse by creating the possibility for more zits and scarring. What exactly can one do to reduce the redness and gruesome appearance of pimply skin?

Sander Tools

Many people will explain that going to the tanning bed or spending some time in the sun will help dry out the skin and get rid of the condition. Other people will tell you that swimming in chlorine or in the salty sea will help pull the harmful particles out of the skin and tighten the skin pores. There has not been any particular research which has proven that these techniques perform, but anyone who has tried these routes do say that it works. While using artificial or natural sunlight helps dry out the skin, it also opens a person's skin up to the possibility of premature aging and skin cancer with regular use. Salt water and chlorine can over dry the skin and cause one to break out worse.

Sander Tools

Further than going to the dermatologist and receiving costly treatments that take time to work, one can always do things to hide the problem and make it less apparent to other people. A lot of women (and some men, too) try to cover up acne with concealer or foundation, but this usually makes the skin appear powdery, cakey or basic silly. These products are not meant for covering this skin nuisance or any other especially prominent skin condition. This is where face tanning lotion will help.

Face tanning lotion? Of course face tanning lotion was designed for bronzing the skin and giving that summery glow to a person's outer appearance, but it can come in useful for those who suffer from acne. To begin with, tanner skin does not show pimples as much as pale skin. Having tanner skin will lessen their redness and visibility by making them blend better into a person's skin tone. Next, unlike heavy makeup, face tanning lotion is thin and does not cling to zits. One won't obtain that cakey look that accentuates the acne and can make it easier to spot.

Although face tanning lotion was created for one purpose, it helps for others. Moving out in the sun to dry a person's skin out or swimming in salty or chemical infused water is never suggested because of their possible side effects. Face tanning lotion does not carry any risk for side effects in any way and makes a person's pimples blend better. Although face tanning lotion does not solve the problem of acne, it sure helps one agonize much less over it's unsightly appearance!

Woodworking Power Tools - What Every Woodworker MUST Have In Their Workshop!

I know you're anxious to get to work, so I'll keep this brief. Even beginning craftsmen need basic woodworking power tools. The more advanced and skilled you become, the more power tools you will need. That's a given. This article will help you figure out what kinds of woodworking power tools are essential for all of us, and what tools you can hold off on for now.

Sander Tools

It is 100% obvious that each woodworker across the globe is at a different level of expertise than his or her neighbor. That's okay. The general rule for acquiring tools is to only buy the tools that are absolutely necessary for the project you happen to be working on at the moment. If you haven't built anything that requires you to use a router, then don't buy a router. Simple enough, right? Once you're ready to advance to the type of project where a table saw would be a necessity, then consider making the purchase.

Sander Tools

Until then, just stick with what you need.

There are, however, some really elemental tools that most of will want to invest in as a base of operations, so to speak. Among these essential woodworking power tools are:

* A power drill
* Orbital sander
* Circular saw
* Jig saw
* Nail gun
* Wood plane

These should get you moving in the right direction. Eventually, heavy-duty power tools will come into play. Things like a table saw, drill press, and compound mitre saw will become your tools of choice as your skill level increases and your projects become more ambitious. Until that time, however, just stick to the basics and you'll be fine.

In just a moment, I will provide you with a link to all kinds of great power tool info and resources, including an entire DEWALT woodworking power tool set that will get you completely stocked up with the basics... for a very reasonable price. In the meantime, however, I would just like to plant the seed in your mind that you should never exceed your budget if it isn't absolutely necessary.

By the same token, you should always aim for top quality tools. New, if you can afford it. Don't take a chance if you don't have to. And always aim for quality over quantity. I will gladly spend 0 on a power drill that I know will last for many years, has a long battery life, and will do any job I ask of it. And I will always turn my nose up at a drill that doesn't promise any of these things.

So grow your workshop methodically. Don't rush it in the name of saving a few dollars. If you can afford to get a whole set of tools in advance, you can usually do so at a bit of a discount. But if you really don't need the stuff yet, there's no sense in owning it yet. Spend that extra money on some top quality wood... that's what's really important!

Oscillating Tool Basics

It used to be that you only had one oscillating tool to choose from. But as the patents have run out, more and more tool manufactures are coming out with their own oscillating tools. This article considers a few basics to hopefully whet you appetite for these versatile little tools.

Sander Tools

An oscillating tool works by moving the blade back and forth very quickly, oscillating if you will. This allows for a very controllable, safe and easy to use tool. I have read that you can put your finger right on the blade and it won't cut you. I am a chicken so I will never know unless I see someone else do it.

Sander Tools

Who needs an oscillating type tool? Really these tools have so many uses that most any trade can find a use for them. They can cut many different types of material including plastic, steel, copper, laminate, plywood, drywall and on and on. What are some specific uses? One thing that an oscillating tool is very useful for is for flush cutting. That means if you have to cut a pipe, nail, stud or anything off flush to the wall or floor, these tools will do it. These tools are very useful in installing flooring like laminate, and tile. Most every tool maker shows their tool cutting under the door jamb to install the flooring. Cutting grout out between tile is also easy to do if you have the right cutting blade.

Besides cutting, an oscillating tool is also handy for detail sanding. While they really can't replace an orbital sander for covering larger areas, the many different shape sanding pads allow you to get into tight areas. This makes the tool for many more applications than just a saw would.

You can get an oscillating tool in a cordless or corded version. As with so many tool purchases, what you buy is based on the usual equation: budget, plus use, divided by application, divided by the square root of your tool preference. Or something like that, I failed math. You can find the tools from under 0 to 0. An argument can be made for any to the tools, but I have made the mistake to many times of trying to get by with a tool that isn't quite what I wanted and I was always disappointed. So consider what you need to do with the tool and how often you will use it and make sure you buy the tool you will be happy with. Check out the reviews at Amazon and see what people are saying.

Make sure you check out some of the different kits available for oscillating tools. For one, you usually get a better deal in a kit plus you may get a few extra blades that you wouldn't have bought, but you may find are very useful to have. You may want to consider a remanufactured tool as they come with a warranty and can save you a few dollars.

If you have been considering an oscillating tool, give one a try. You will find them lightweight, easy to use and a great time saver on the job and around the house.
